Udhampur district

Udhampur is the 5th largest district of the J&K state and is situated in the south ern part of the state.It has five tehsils viz. Udhampur,Ramnagar,Chenani and Gool Gulabgarh.Administration headquarters  are in Udhampur at a distance of 66kms from jammu on the national highway.12 community blocks exist in Udhampur viz Udhampur,chenani,Panchari,Ghordi,Ramnagar,Majalta,Dudu-Basantgarh,Reasi,Pouni,Arnas,Mahore,and Gool.
There are 6 towns viz Udhampur,Reasi,Katra,Ramnagar,Chenani and Rehamble, Altitude varoius from 600 to 3000 meters.the temperature rises to 42 degree in summers and dips to 1.5 in winters.Most of the rainfall talkes place in july,Augest and september.district is rich with mineral deposits like coal,bauxite, magnesite,gypsum and Limesstone.Famous Mansar lake is also located in this district.
The most precious possession of Udhampur is the world famous Hindu shrine of sri Mata Vaishno Devi located in sacred Trikuta hills. Over 70 million people annually visit the shrine.Udhampur also serves as the headquaeters of Northern command of Army.
